Лялька-мотанка — це не просто іграшка чи сувенір. Це один із найдавніших сакральних символів української культури. Її історія сягає корінням у глибину тисячоліть, адже перші зразки таких ляльок з’явилися ще 5000 років тому. Традиційно мотанку створюють без використання голки, «мотаючи» ниточки, які символізуть цілісність життя та енергію роду.
Окремої уваги заслуговують мотанки з косами, які я створюю власноруч. У нашій традиції волосся завжди вважалося носієм життєвої сили та мудрості. Коса, вплетена в ляльку, — це не лише естетичний елемент, а глибокий символічний образ. Вона уособлює дівочу чистоту, поєднання трьох начал (минулого, теперішнього та майбутнього) і стає своєрідним «каналом», через який лялька накопичує позитивну енергію, оберігаючи свого власника. Сплітаючи ці нитки в косу, я наче впорядковую власні думки, наділяючи ляльку особливим спокоєм та силою.
Створення такої ляльки — це мій особистий медитативний процес. В умовах війни це допомагає мені «розрядити обстановку», привести мозок у стан рівноваги та знайти внутрішню опору. Кожен виток нитки, кожен вплетений пасмо волосся — це крок до ментальної стабільності. Це своєрідна арттерапія, яка дозволяє відволіктися від реальності та вкласти в роботу найсвітліші побажання для себе та своєї країни.

Motanka doll is far more than just a toy or a souvenir; it is one of the most ancient sacred symbols of Ukrainian culture. Its history spans thousands of years, with the earliest examples dating back 5,000 years. Traditionally, a Motanka is crafted without the use of a needle, by “winding” (motaty) threads, which symbolizes the integrity of life and the energy of one’s ancestors.
The Motanka dolls with braids that I create by hand deserve special attention. In our tradition, hair has always been considered a vessel of life force and wisdom. A braid woven into the doll is not merely an aesthetic element, but a deeply symbolic image. It represents feminine purity and the connection of three beginnings—the past, the present, and the future. It acts as a kind of “channel” through which the doll accumulates positive energy to protect its owner. As I weave these threads into a braid, I feel as though I am putting my own thoughts in order, imbuing the doll with a sense of peace and strength.
Creating such a doll is my personal meditative process. In these times of war, it helps me “decompress,” bring my mind into a state of balance, and find inner stability. Every turn of the thread, every woven strand of hair—it is all a step toward mental clarity. This is a form of art therapy that allows me to step away from the harsh reality and pour my brightest hopes and wishes for myself and my country into my work.
